Anleh
District, located in the northwest of Keelung City, is adjacent
to Chungshang District along Hsiting River in the east; Jenai
District at Leyi Li, in the southeast; Chitu and Nuanuan District
along Maiching Rd. and Keelung River, in the southwest; and
Wanli Hsiang, Taipei County, at Neiliao Li, in the west.
In 1924, the "farmstead" was changed to "Ding."
On October 1, 1941, to cope with the urban development, Ke-keh-gang
was changed to Guan-yin Ding, Pao Ding, and Hsi Ding (but
Da-wu-luan was still a "Dah"), and, then, renamed
Anleh District, and divided into 21 Lis in January, 1946.
In March, 1988, the city government made a major adjustment
in the administrative division in the hope of balancing the
development of Sih-wha, Sih-rong, Sih-ding, Sih-kong, Deh-ho,
Deh-ann, and Chung-ho. These seven Lis, thus, became part
of Chung-shan District, and the following six Lis which were
originally subordinated to Chidu District became part of this
district: Ying-geh, Chi-sien, Szu-wei, San-min, Wu-fu, and
Liu-ho.
Anleh
District, governs 24 Lis, and covers an area of 18,0250 square
kilometers (13.58% of the city), is now the third largest
district of the entire city. According to the statistics as
of the end of September, 2004, the current population, 84,861,
makes it the most populous district in this city.
